Quebec is a winter paradise — especially for those of us who love snowmobiles. This Eastern Canadian province has 20,500 miles (33,000 km) of groomed trails that stretch from the shores of the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Upper Laurentians to Gaspe, up against the Maritime provinces.
Since the snowmobile was born in the small French town of Valcourt, Quebec (admittedly, this is a much-debated “fact”), it’s no wonder that the machine has become an integral part of winter fun.
Quebec is the ideal location for a backpacker snowmobile trip, where you load everything on the snowmobile and set off to become an adventurer. A few years ago, I packed my laptop into the snowmobile gear bag and spent five days covering a thousand miles of spectacular scenery. It’s an experience I can highly recommend!
The trails have excellent signage, so getting to where you’re going isn’t a problem. Services are readily accessible along the trail, with everything from gas stations and restaurants to mountain chateaus and covered parking for your machines.
